About Lux Mea

The Lux Mea Film Festival is the product of Grove City College’s Special Events and Promotions class taught by Professor Gregory Bandy. The class cultivates a vibrant learning environment where students are organized into teams that each manage a different aspect of the event.

Throughout the semester, these teams will bring their various skill sets of marketing, management, social media, video production, graphic design, and branding photography into practice by putting together not just an event, but an immersive experience for the student body and local community.

The Lux Mea Film Festival premiered at Grove City’s Guthrie Theater in April 2021. Since then, Lux Mea has become an annual event on the Grove City College Campus running in Crawford Auditorium. The name “Lux Mea,” is rooted in Latin and translates to “my light”. This festival not only echoes the cherished motto of Grove City College but also embodies its profound significance.

The festival was created as a platform for emerging student filmmakers, providing them an opportunity to showcase their talent and creativity. Students submit their films to the Communications and Visual Arts Department where faculty then choose which films are to be screened. These films are judged by professionals in the film industry that the department invites, such as GCC alum Brian Osmond. Students have the chance to win awards within 12 categories such as best narrative, audience favorite, best cinematography, etc.

We encourage films to act as a spotlight for truth and explore what it means to be a human being made in the image of God.
